Before Clinton took office the United States had the largest budget deficit in the history of America. When he was elected he lowered the deficit by over half. Many people believe Clinton was impeached because of the sexual affair he had on his wife Hillary Clinton although this is false. He was tried on the fact he had an affair on his wife in which he denied the fact he cheated on his wife. Later he admitted to it though. He was then impeached by the House of Representatives for perjury and obstruction of justice because he had lied under oath. He was also charged with a second case of perjury as well as abuse of power. Although the House impeached him, they needed the Senate approval. He was later acquitted of impeachment by the Senate because not a single Democratic voted against him.
